Petra graduated from the Faculty of Law, Charles University in Prague in 1993, where she gained a doctoral degree five years later. In 1995, she graduated from the Academy of Performing Arts (AMU), specializing in the dance theory.
Participating in the Fulbright scholar program, she studied at the New York University, focusing on the copyright protection of choreographic works. Currently, she is a member of the Institute of Copyright, Industrial Property Rights and Competition Law, specializing in license contracts, copyright exceptions and restrictions and the differences between the European and Anglo-American copyright systems. She also acts as a member of an expert group set up by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, a member of the Board of Directors of the European Intellectual Property Teachers Network (EIPTN) and a member of the Board of International Literary and Artistic Association (ALAI). As for her non-academic experience, she has worked for the BMG Ariola and Supraphon recording companies. In 2003, she became the Director of the Czech National Group of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (ČNS IFPI).
